George Siemens is a middle-aged retired stand-up comedian film star. Despite his wealth, he has become disillusioned and depressed because most of his recent film work is low-bro and has been poorly received. They are diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and offered an experimental treatment that has only 8% chance of a therapeutic response. Assuming he is going to die, he returns to his roots of stand-up comedy.
Ira Wright is an aspiring stand-up comedian in her 20s, sharing an apartment with her two best friends, Mark and Leo. Mark leads in his TV comedy series and earns good money. Leo Mark is a resurgent comedy star and guest performer for a recurring role in the TV show. George meets the IRA at a small comedy club and hires him as his assistant. Ira becomes one of George’s close relationships. Two trips across the country, Hiring George Ira as their personal assistant and joke writer and opening up for them at big comedy clubs, often meet with real-life comedians who play themselves and talk about the business of comedy.
