Movie Plot: Dr. Peaton Westlake is developing a new type of synthetic skin to help burn victims, but can not find a defect that makes the skin rapidly decompose after 99 minutes. His girlfriend, attorney Julie Hastings, exposes the Bellisroer Memorandum, a dangerous document that proves that developer Louis Strac jr. is paying bribes to members of the Zoning Commission. When she faces streak, she admits, shows Julie that she plans to build a new city, which will create a substantial number of new jobs. He warns Julie that mobster Robert Durant also wants a document.
In Westlake’s lab, Westlake and his assistant yakatito are testing the skin when the lights go out. Synthetic skin stabilizes after 100 minutes; Westlake cut skin is spontaneous. They search for the document, and Durant killed his people and beat Westlake, burned his hands and immersed his face in acid. After finding the document, they rigged the laboratory to explode; It does this as Julie watches. The explosion throws the burned Westlake stealthily through the roof and into the river. As a John Doe, he is brought to a hospital and subjected to a radical treatment that cuts the veins of the spinothalamic tract; Physical pain is no longer felt at the expense of tactile sensations. This loss of sensory input gives him increased strength due to adrenal overload and protects him from injury, but also mentally destabilizes him.
