The series is described as modern fable set in Long Beach, California, about a disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell), who’s drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family pool business.
In the first season, Dud joins a fraternal order known as the Lynx and is welcomed by middle-aged plumbing salesman and “Luminous Knight” Ernie (Brent Jennings). Dud hopes the Lodge can put him on the path to recover the idyllic life he’s lost. Dud finds himself deposited by fate at the doorstep of Lodge 49, a dusty fraternal order that offers cheap beer and strange alchemical philosophies. Ex-Surfer Sean “Dude’ Dudley finds that a gold ring appears with a medieval animal. He tries to make it a pawn, only to know that it is useless, but it is reported that it originated from a fraternal order called Order of the Links. Destiny and an empty gas tank placed him outside a building as the linex symbol of the ring. He has been greeted by Ernie, who is a dazzling knight, which orders them inside Lodge 49 and gives them a limited tour and a pamphlet about his house. Given a connection, Dude joins the command and wants to become a square. Since he has no home, Dud’s sister Liz let him live with him, but blames his dead father for them in life; He left them in debt for their pool supply business. In court for the atrocity, Dud apologises to the family that now lives in his old family home and the case is settled. Ernie and Connie discover that Larry has taken himself out of the hospital. At a ceremony, Dude pledges allegiance to the lodge and become a rebel. Liz is advised by a colleague to move to Apothecary and she buys psychedelic lollipops from Blue. Dude starts a monthly temporary job in an office building, filing termination packets. Liz realizes that Dud has taken another loan and is worried that he doesn’t think about the future and is just like his father. They finally decide to hold a funeral service for their father. Connie has been fired from his journalism job. Blaise shows a special suit at the Lodge to Dud and inspects Blaise Dud’s leg injury when he was bitten by a snake. Dud and the office’s HR manager Gloria start connecting and she asks about a problem with her pool.
