Movie Plot: Frank Forbes in Los Angeles in 1958 is a driver who works for Mogul Howard Hughes. She chooses Marla Mabre, a devout Baptist beauty queen under contract with Hughes’ film studio RRO Pictures, who receives $400 per week ($3,470 today) and lives in a beautiful home with her strict mother Lucy. Frank becomes Marla’s primary driver, taking him to singing and dancing classes.
Marla Stella waits for her screen test for Starlight, but she and her mother are frustrated by the delay, complicated by the fact that she is yet to meet Hughes. Marla makes friends with fellow RDO star Maam. Hughes employee Laver Mathias regularly reminds Frank that starlets may not have boyfriends, and chauffeurs should avoid friendships with girls. Frank is religiously religious, although he and his fiancée Sarah have had sex secretly. When Lucy decided she should return to Virginia, Marla continued to wait for a screen test.
