Jimmy Woods is a young boy suffering from PTSD after his twin sister Jennifer drowned two years ago. She has focused on traveling to California for unknown reasons, desperate her mother Christine and stepfather Mr. Bateman. Jimmy’s father Sam lives with his eldest sons Nick and Corey, but there is nothing to help in his youngest deal with his grief. Fed up with his broken family, Corey takes Jimmy out of the mental institution and travels on foot to Los Angeles. Nick and Sam bring the boys back out, in competition with Mr Putnam, a sleazy baby bounty hunter hired by Mr. Bateman and Christine to find Jimmy. The two sides continued to quarrel with each other on the road.
At a bus station, Jimmy and Corey meet Hailey Brooks, a teenager on their way home to Reno. They discover that Jimmy has an instinctive skill to play video games. They are the 25 “Video Armageddon” “A gaming tournament is being held at Universal Studios Hollywood, taking Jimmy with a grand prize of $50,000 to make a deal, splitting the cash if Jimmy wins. By doing so, they hope to prove that Jimmy is not in a mental institution. All three hitchhiker land, using Jimmy skills to hustle people out of their money by playing games. They eventually meet Lucas Barton, a popular but tasty gamer who owns a power glove and realizes that he’s just as skilled as Jimmy. He told Hailey that he would also enter the tournament.
